Flying Fox

Flying Fox is inspired by the spectacular sunset evenings Artist Gregg Hone experienced during his year’s spent in the tropical Far North of Australia. His drawing depicts the spectacled flying-fox that is confined to wet tropics in Queensland but extends into Papua- New Guinea. As with the series, Gregg has given geometric form and distorted the hair to create a recognisable yet magical creature with simplistic eyes that engaged the viewer. What wonders has this beautiful mammal seen in its many journeys high in the sky?

Artist Gregg Hone

“I often miss the warm, balmy tropical nights of Far North Queensland. What seemed like never ending evenings of mid to high 20’s after a day of a consist 33 degrees celsius. Sitting on the immaculate white sandy beach below the canopy of the rainforest that sprawled down from the mount right into the ocean; listening to the waves of the crystal clear tropical waters gently roll in and like clockwork, just as the sun was setting, the sky would come alive. Down from the mountain tops thousands of beautiful flying foxes would fill the sky. Their dog like faces glowing gold from the sunset”.
